What's Happening
Engineering: Pierce County along with Newland Communities is continuing with the design of the initial Phase 1 projects which include: design of the roadway, lighting, storm drainage system and stormwater treatment facilities.
Land: Right-of-way plans are complete for the roadway between 144th Street East and 120th Street East.
About the Project
Improvements are planned to 1.5 miles of
198th Avenue East between 144th Street East and 120th Street East (CRP 5675). The project will be built in phases as Tehaleh development occurs and also accommodate future widening by Pierce County.
The initial, or Phase 1, project will be split into two segments:
- Segment 1 will construct the roadway consisting of four lanes between 144th Street East and 128th Street East.
- Segment 2 will construct the roadway consisting of four lanes between 128th Street East and 120th Street East.
Project Timeline
2019: Constructed Segment 1 from 144th Street East to 128th Street East. Finalize construction plans for Segment 2 between 128th Street East and 120th Street East. Acquire right-of-way needed for Segment 2 between 128th Street East and 120th Street East.
2020: Construct Segment 2 between 128th Street East and 120th Street East. Construction timeline depends on time for right-of-way acquisition.
2021 and Beyond: The schedule for future phases has not been determined.
