Pierce County sewer facilities are generally located on one side of Meridian Ave. E., State Route 161 (SR 161). Contractors working for Pierce County will extend sewer to the other side of the highway in four locations from existing sewer mains. This will allow better access for future customers.
Sewer pipe will be installed under Meridian East at: 146th Street East, 147th Street East, 149th Street East and 158th Street East. New manholes will also be installed at the four intersections.
When lane closures are required on SR 161, construction will occur at night. If no lane closures are needed, then construction work will occur between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
This project supports the Pierce County Centers and Corridors initiative promoting compact communities built around major roadways. The project supports development in the South Hill area along the SR 161 corridor.
