Annex Remodel


What's happening

A renovation of the Development Center and the east end of the Pierce County Annex is currently in its second phase. The work is expected to be completed in late Spring 2019.

Project milestones

  • Notice to proceed given Jan. 14
  • Wall and furniture demolition of Phase 1 work area complete Jan. 25
  • Electrical demolition complete for Phase 1
  • File storage room fire suppression system disconnected and moved offsite
  • Construction of the new Phase 1 wall located adjacent to the development counter complete
  • Materials abatement complete
  • Office walls framed
  • Electrical roughed in and lighting relocation complete
  • Cable tray installation complete
  • IT cabling rough-in complete
  • Drywall, taping and texture complete
  • New ceiling grid where the old vault has been installed
  • Wall painting complete
  • Carpet and vinyl installation complete
  • Ceiling tile installation complete
  • Phase 1 of project complete
  • Phase 2 abatement complete

Next steps

  • Phase 2 construction started May 6
  • HVAC, electrical, and IT cabling are being roughed in
  • Framing and demolition work continues


  • Consolidation of staff around the Development Center for improved customer service
  • A customer service window that is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be added
  • Improved building security
  • New finishes and furniture


Our goal is to minimize impacts to our services, customers and staff. Customers visiting the Development Center Lobby may experience construction noise and dust, and see areas covered with plastic sheeting. 

Staff will temporarily relocate to different areas of the Annex throughout the work.


By relocating all staff around the Development Center, we expect to see improved collaboration between staff and our customers. Upgrades to the space will create an improved environment for our customers and staff.
